If you're any thing like me, my bedroom is designed to be my retreat from the outer world. I wanted to create an environment that allows me to escape the day to day stresses and lets me relax. As much as I love color, I chose to stay with muted colors that promote more relaxation. But I had to learn this the hard way.
I remember the time when my partner and I first moved in. We wanted to update our home in our own taste and we decided to paint the walls a deep red. It didn't take long for me to realize that the darkness and intensity was not conducive to relaxation. I liked the color but that didn't need to be the color of my bedroom!
For a bedroom to achieve that relaxing vibe, you need to have the right mix of "hard" furniture such as dressers, side tables, beds, frames and "soft" furnishings such as curtains and rugs.
Now, I know I may be biased, but I am adamant that curtains are among the most fundamental décor items for any bedroom. Your curtains should make a statement - the statement being "come in and relax".
When it comes to decorating your bedroom with these widow treatments, you just have to know how to choose the right ones for the look, style and functionality you want.
Tips to Follow while Choosing Bedroom Curtains
Bedroom Curtains: Choosing the Fabric
When choosing bedroom curtains, the right fabric is crucial in creating the right vibe for your bedroom. They also determine how well your curtains function and hold up over time.
Consider the amount of sunlight you want streaming in and the mood and décor of your room. Thicker fabrics are ideal for bedroom windows because they fold crisply when drawn. The material of the fabric is also important: canvas, suede, velvet, tapestry and tweed are great materials that help block light and keep the temperature regulated. I also love damask or brocade fabric for bedrooms if you want a rich look for your bedroom.
If you want to keep it simple, our best selling canvas material has a great texture that provides just enough visual interest that it doesn't overwhelm the sense while creating that softness that offsets the hardness of your furniture.
Also, choosing fabrics that are interlined with, a thick, insulating felt material can also help prolong the life of the curtains whilst giving the curtains their body and fullness.
Bedroom Curtains: Choosing the colour
When choosing bedroom curtains, start with solid colors as they are versatile and layer easily with other décor items already in the room. The colors should complement the overall style of your décor.
You honestly can't go wrong with white, beige or gray curtains. The key in choosing color is decided whether you're going for a warm cozy feel or a cool fresh feel.
And it's not boring to go with solid colors for your curtains. You can always get pattern and color from other accessories such as throw cushions, duvet cover or paintings on the wall.
Because curtains cover such a large area of the wall, I recommend you don't go too crazy with patterned curtains. This is especially true if you have multiple windows in your bedroom.
However, I do encourage you to select a fabric with texture. We searched everywhere for the perfect fabric for curtains that we could make as wide as we could and as long as we could.
The color of your bedroom curtains should ideally be in sync with the rest of the décor; so, you could either choose bedroom curtains that harmonizes with the décor or contrast with it.
At the end of the day, no matter your décor, I don't think you can go wrong with simply white bedroom curtains!
Bedroom curtains: Choosing the Header
Headers are SO important. And not just for the looks but for functionality as well. At Spin & Weave, we specialize in pinch pleat curtains as that tends to be the go to for designers. Things have modernized a bit and nowadays, the two pinch pleats curtains are more popular than the traditional three pinch pleat curtains.
Pinch pleat curtains are great because the pleats do not disappear as you draw the curtains across the window. Pinch pleat curtains use a lot more fabric to achieve this effect but the results are SO worth it.

But for bedroom curtains, I definitely recommend you go with the pinch pleat curtains. And they come in blackout as well!

It is essential that your curtain does not compromise your privacy, even before anything else. Quality curtains should keep your room bright enough while still managing to offer a fair degree of privacy.
